Breeding Westies
Not only a passion
If I had to explain how to breed Westies, I should came back to the memory of thirteen years old little boy who get his first westie.
Iit’s from that age I started to be interested in this breed. But soon I found out the passion is not enough to be a good breeder, especially with such a complex breed. Care and specific knowledge, which are not written in any book and few people with experience are willing to give, are needed.
Tthis knowledge can be found from the choosing of the right genealogy, the grooming, the specific care for the body and the nutrition.
Iit’s so important to have a clear idea of the breed standard, namely of the typical construction and, as I already said, a good knowledge of the right genealogy to try to work for the improvement of the breed.
RESEARCH OF THE BLOODLINES, THE “BASE OF MY KENNEL”
The research of the right bloodlines led me abroad. I travelled around Europe to get a definite idea of my ideal Westie, I visited the most important and historic breeders.
In my first UK travels I started to shape in my head what today I want to see what when I look at my dogs. I look for a strong and beautiful heads, compact but functional bodies and a really wiry coat. Dogs built so they excel in movement.
In time I realised the typical westie is not only in the body construction but especially in the typical terrier temperament. A well balanced dog, full of energy, always ready to throw itself in any new experience with its own special enthusiasm.

You realise that a westie puppy with an important genealogy and a typical well blanced temperament is definitely not a LUCKY COINCIDENCE but it involves hard work of selection and socialisation. A sweet puppy purchased in a pet shop or in unscrupulous hands can’t guarantee the same psychological wellbeing, type and health of a puppy bred by a dedicated breeder. I take a special care for the socialisation during the growth of my puppies so that when they leave my home they are able to live a happy life and to be a perfect life mate for their new families exactly as their parents are to mine.
My priority in breeding is to test dogs for genetic disease before considering reproduction.
Only the reproduction of carefully selected dogs can allow the breed to keep going.
Care
My commitment is to take excellent care of my dogs: the proper nutrition, the extreme hygiene and the expert hands for grooming. This special care led us to obtain great achievements in show in Italy, like twice the Top Westie of the year (Top Dog), and many other titles around Europe, overseas, Thailand and US.
After all my work, i try to entrust my puppies only if i think the families are definitely ready to get them with Love and Dedication, and i always want to follow up new owners. Their health and their psychological wellness are my priorities.

Francesco Zaccariello
Pharmacist and Breeder for Passion
My name is Francesco Zaccariello, i live and breed in San Marcellino, Caserta.
I work in my family’s pharmacy but the Westie passion followed my life, since i was 13.
Dog shows
The FCI dog shows are the place where the breeder can test his or her work by allowing expert judge to criticise his or her homebred dogs. This is the real reason I am driving thousands and thousands km at impossible timings, surely I am not doing it for the personal fame or to collect rosettes but to show the results of my hard work and always looking for new dogs to breed.
